Stoking the Racial Fires

Here's a timeline of Barack Obama's response to the Trayvon Martin shooting.

February 26, Trayvon Martin was shot.

March 2, President Obama calls Sandra Fluke to make her feel better.

Why is Sandra Fluke in the Barack Obama-Trayvon Martin controversy?  Because it reminds us how shallow, superficial, and stupid the American media can be.  And it reminds us that 2012 is an election year.  And it reminds us how partisan Barack Obama is, and how he loves to use the media.  Birth control!  Get women worked up!  Birth control, birth control!

March 14th, the Sandra Fluke controversy is still ragingYes, our media is quite stupid.  We cannot mock our media enough!

March 21st, the Washington Post asks, "Who Is George Zimmerman?"  They are asking this question because nobody knows.  We've never heard of George Zimmerman, or Trayvon Martin.  So why are we hearing about them now?  Why is this a national news story?

Federal agencies have now taken over the case.

It's a national story because the Obama Administration and the Justice Department wanted it to be a national story.  They wanted to drum up racial upset, as they wanted to drum up gender upset, because this is an election year.

March 23rd, Obama speaks out!  "When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids.  I think every parent in American should understand why it is absolutely imperative why we investigate every aspect of this."  In two days, Trayvon Martin has gone from anonymity to one of Obama's kids.  And now President Obama wants to talk to Trayvon Martin's parents.  (Just like he wanted to talk to Sandra Fluke!)  "But my main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin.  If I had a son he would look like Trayvon."

November 6, Obama is re-elected.

July 13, George Zimmerman is acquitted in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.  There are nationwide protests, divided along racial lines

July 15,  Obama gives a statementTime for healing!  "The death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy.  Not just for his family, or for any one community, but for America."

When he's running for re-election and needs his base to be out there and voting, Obama nationalizes a local crime story.  He compares the victim to his own kids, and to his own skin color.

After he's elected and Zimmerman's show trial is over, Obama goes post-racial.  It's an American tragedy.  And Obama takes this opportunity to talk about gun control again.  "We should ask ourselves if we're doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis."

Yes, as President Obama reminds us, lots of people are shot, every day, in local crime stories.  So while Trayvon Martin is a very sad story, it's not actually a national story.  And Obama is not running for office!  So it's time to change the subject from the skin color of his imagined children to the importance of gun control.

Good point about how this was ginned up, but remember there wasn't a word about leaving Z alone, just about "honoring" Saint Skittles.

Obama is a marxist and a racist. There isn't the slightest doubt in my mind that if Americans can be stripped of their guns mass murder will follow. Which, of course, makes me a nut. Not that my status counts. What counts is that this creature, Obama, will unloose hell on America in the final two years of his second term. And that WILL happen no matter how the 2014 election turns out.

Saint Croix--your blog was recommended because you talked about issues--that is my preference as well-the residue from the demise of the althouse blog seems toxic to me--you were one of the few commenters that focused on issues--how do access your blog

Roger J ... your reasons for arriving here are the same as mine essentially, as I said yesterday on a thread here.

What Obama doesn't tell you about all the gun deaths is that the bulk of them are black on black homicides. Color is only important to him for elections, as you said.

For example: How and why is the death of Trayon Martin more newsworthy than that of Darryl Green?

Not even shot to death, but beaten to death. Oh, wait...we were told that doesn't happen, right?
